Pasig City gives cash incentive to scholars who graduated with Latin honors

Pasig City is giving a cash incentive to its scholars who graduated with Latin honors.

In his social media posts, Mayor Vico Sotto said summa cum laude graduates are entitled to receive P30,000, while magna cum laude and cum laude graduates will get P25,000 and P20,000, respectively.

Eleven scholars have received their incentives on Wednesday, and others may send the requirements to the scholarship office.

"We also reminded them that as the city and its taxpayers have helped them get through school, they should also find ways to give back to the city... whether through their time, volunteer work, or even helping other students when they become financially capable," Sotto said.

Meanwhile, Pasig City procured laptops for public school teachers to help them conduct online classes amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Pasig also temporarily waived regulatory fees for private schools and extended the coverage of its scholarship fund.

According to Sotto, these support measures were done to avoid overcrowding the public school system as many students can no longer afford to pay tuition fees. —MGP, GMA News
