1 dead, 9 injured in Taguig road accident -police
One person was killed while nine others were injured in a vehicular incident involving several cars and motorcycles in Barangay Upper Bicutan, Taguig City on Tuesday.
In an interview on Dobol B sa News TV, Taguig City Police chief Police Colonel Celso Rodriguez said the family members of victim Christian Dalisay informed him that the latter has passed away.
"Yung isa (sa biktima) ay pumanaw na kanina, si Christian Dalisay. 'Yung dalawa pa ay conscious naman sa Taguig-Pateros Hospital. Kami ay nakikiramay sa pamilya ng biktima, nakakalungkot nga," he said.
A total of 14 vehicles, including five cars, one bicycle, and eight motorcycles, were involved in the accident.
"'Yung iba naman hindi naman nasaktan kasi sila 'yung nasa pinaka-likuran kasi kung titingnan natin, sunod-sunod kasi, medyo traffic doon sa lugar kaya lang parang nagkaroon ng domino effect," Rodriguez said in a separate phone interview.
Rodriguez said suspect Conrad Frank Toledo, a company driver, was the one who caused the accident as he was looking at his cellphone while driving along PAE DOST so he did not notice that he already hit other vehicles. He added that Toledo tried to escape.
"Hindi naman siya nakainom, siyempre company driver, although sinasabi niya nataranta lang siya pero ang totoo niyan 'yung cellphone tinitingnan niya at nagulat na lang siya may nabangga na pala siya. Sa taranta niya, gusto niyang tumakas so ganoon kadami ang nainvolved na sasakyan," the police official said.
"Noong nagtangka siyang tumakas, nataranta na siya, doon mayroon na naman siyang naatrasan so nagkaroon na naman ng domino effect doon sa likuran..." he added.
The suspect is now in police custody. He will be facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries with multiple damage to property and homicide.
