The Bureau of Customs-NAIA has intercepted P1.5 million worth of firearms, parts and accessories for lack of import permit from the Firearms and Explosive Office of the Philippine National Police.

In a statement on Saturday, the BOC said the 28 parcels containing the items were illegally imported through Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) in Pasay City.

Authorities seized the items for violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act in relation to Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, the BOC said.

The case will be referred to the Bureau Action Team Against Smugglers (BATAS) and Legal Service for further investigation, case build up, and prosecution of importers and their conspirators.

BOC said the firearms, parts, and accessories will be turned over to the Enforcement and Security Service-Firearms and Explosive Office for safekeeping pending seizure and forfeiture proceedings.

District Collector Carmelita Talusan assured the public that BOC-NAIA will remain focused in protecting the borders against illegal import of high risk commodities that are dangerous to national security and public health. —LBG, GMA News
