Fallen trees, limited power, but no major damage in Bilibid, Mandaluyong women's prison —BuCor

The New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa and the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City reported no major damage as Typhoon Ulysses brought heavy rain and strong winds to Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

All inmates in both facilities are all safe and accounted for, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said Thursday morning.

Bilibid experienced intermittent power disruptions during the night but most camps now have limited power back, the BuCor said. The CIW has no electricity.

The Bilibid hospital is using emergency lights. Four empty isolation tents in front of the hospital building were damaged and are being dismantled to be repaired, the bureau said.

The typhoon toppled trees inside the Bilibid reservation but roads have "mostly" been cleared.

The BuCor said it advised its non-essential office personnel to stay home, and those who live inside or near the reservation area to be on standby.

The Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Occidental Mindoro also said it experienced heavy rains and gusty winds but has reported no damage so far, the BuCor said.

Other BuCor prisons are not in the path of Typhoon Ulysses and reported "normal situation" in their areas, the bureau said.

Metro Manila and eight other areas were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 at 8 a.m. Thursday as Ulysses continued moving toward Zambales and the West Philippine Sea.

The typhoon is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility Friday morning or afternoon. —KG, GMA News
