QC says minors allowed to go out only for essential needs

Minors in Quezon City are still not allowed to go out except for essential needs such as medical or dental appointments, the local government announced Sunday, days after the Department of the Interior and Local Government said they are allowed to go to malls.

In an advisory on Sunday, Quezon City said only persons between 18 to 65 years old are allowed to leave home, provided that they have a company ID, school ID, or any government-issued ID.

"For most of us, especially families with younger children, we have to forego some of our Christmas traditions like traveling and eating out together. But in exchange, this will give us peace of mind as we'll remain safe and COVID-free," said Mayor Joy Belmonte.

However, the local government clarified that children below 18 are allowed to go out for essential needs provided they are accompanied by a parent or guardian and must observe health protocols such as wearing face masks, they do regular handwashing, and physical distancing.

In the same advisory, the city government said other Christmas traditions will still push through, in accordance with health protocols and guidelines.

For the Simbang Gabi, the venue should not exceed 30% capacity, while fireworks displays will only be allowed in designated locations such as the Quezon Memorial Circle and Eastwood, and such events will be livestreamed online. Traditional caroling will also be permitted.

Just last week, the DILG said minors across the country are allowed to go to mall with their parents. —LBG, GMA News
