Valenzuela's suspension order on NLEX Corp. stays

The suspension order on the business permit of the North Luzon Expressway in Valenzuela City remains after the city government and NLEX decided that the latter would finish first upgrading its system by January 2021.

A meeting between the two camps was held on Monday to discuss the RFID cashless payment mess that caused heavy traffic congestion in Valenzuela City and neighboring areas in the previous days.

Mayor Rex Gatchalian wants NLEX to consider the removal of toll barriers as he deems it unnecessary in a cashless payment scheme.

"You have any time you want, I will make myself available for further answers to our questions on the barriers up and that will be the answer on when will we lift the suspension," Gatchalian said.

Gatchalian bared the inconveniences and problems caused by the RFID glitches during the meeting, noting that it had caused serious traffic jams and troubled the general public.

The mayor said NLEX Corporation was inefficient during their shift to a digital cashless system.
