Passengers tumble due to MRT3 glitch but management says nobody got hurt

Several passengers reportedly got hurt after the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) experienced a technical glitch on Wednesday evening.

According to Chino Gaston’s report on “24 Oras” on Thursday, a northbound train approaching Boni Station stopped due to a technical problem at around 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

A passenger interviewed by GMA News said people inside one of the coaches got hurt due to the sudden stoppage of the train.

“Bigla na lang huminto ng malakas tapos nagtumbahan lahat ng tao,” the passenger said.

The MRT3 management, however, denied that anyone got hurt during the incident.

The management also explained that the stoppage is one of the safety features of the train as it might have detected a problem within the power system.

Due to the incident, the MRT3 was on provisional service from North Avenue Station to Shaw Boulevard.

More than 3,500 passengers were affected. Some decided to take the EDSA carousel instead, while others resorted to riding taxis.

The MRT3 eventually resumed full operations on Thursday morning.

The management assured that precautionary measures were already being taken to prevent service interruptions in the future.

“We are under rehabilitation. So kung mapapansin niyo, from June, wala tayong mga glitches. Ito, mga isolated lang na nangyayari. Hindi naman natin puwedeng sabihing 100% wala, ‘di ba?” MRT3 operations manager Michael Capati said.

“Kasi nga minsan nagkakaroon ng malfunctioning ang isang unit o isang area. Pero rest assured, everyday, we are conducting our regular maintenance on top of our rehabilitation,” he added. -Ma. Angelica Garcia/MDM, GMA News
