Man dies after getting buried under man-made pit in Caloocan subdivision
A man on Tuesday died after he was buried in a man-made pit in Vista Verde Subdivision, Caloocan City, according to Manny Vargas’ report on Super Radyo dzBB.
Fire Senior Inspector James Rosaroso, Bureau of Fire Protection-Caloocan chief of operations, said the incident occurred at 11 a.m.
The upper part of the hole, which was 3 meters or around 9 feet deep, collapsed while the victim was inside.
Rosaroso said the victim could not be rescued while his two colleagues were able to get away.
According to another report by Vargas, Caloocan City Police acting chief Colonel Samuel Mina identified the victim as Nelson Dehumos.
The 50-year-old lived at Barangay Tumana in Marikina City.
Dehumos and his colleagues were digging a hole for a retaining wall of an establishment near Gate 1 in Vista Verde.
He was using a jackhammer to dig when the incident occurred. He immediately died.
His fellow construction worker, Asdam Wanul, said that he was able to jump as he was positioned slightly above the victim. Despite this, he also sustained a big wound on his right shoulder.
The construction workers, who were working for the Sheridan Merchandising Corporation, were not wearing hard hats.
The victim’s body has been retrieved and will be bought to a funeral home for autopsy. —Joahna Lei Casilao/AOL/BM, GMA News
