Customs seizes P7-M worth of ukay-ukay at Port of Manila

Operatives of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Port of Manila seized more than P7 million worth of misdeclared used clothes or “ukay-ukay.”

In a statement on Tuesday, the BOC said its operatives intercepted two containers with the misdeclared items on December 29, 2020.

The Customs said the shipment, consigned certain MGGF International Trading Corp., entered during the Christmas holidays from China and was declared as tissue.

“Examination of the container however revealed that it actually contained used clothes estimated to have a value of P7.853 million,” the BOC said.

The shipment was seized for violation of Section 1400 in relation to Section 1113 of the RA 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), according to the bureau.

The revocation of the importer's accreditation is also being processed, it said.—LDF, GMA News
