Malabon barangay chairman shot dead at home

A barangay chairman in Malabon City died on Monday after he was shot by unidentified armed men.

According to Divine Reyes’ report on Super Radyo dzBB, the fatality was identified as Anthony Velasquez, 40, chairman of Barangay Hulong Duhat.

The city’s public information office said the incident happened at Velasquez’s backyard past 4 p.m.

He was immediately rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Bong Padua of the city’s public information office said Velasquez has already been receiving death threats from several groups and drug syndicates.

Meanwhile, Northern Police District chief Eliseo Cruz said he has ordered additional police forces in the city following the incident.—Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
