QC gov’t waives penalties in real property tax amnesty

Amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the Quezon City Government on Friday granted an amnesty on all real property tax delinquencies in the city.

According to the LGU, Ordinance No. SP-2979 “grants all outstanding real property tax liabilities and delinquencies on land, building or improvements, and machineries, as assessed by the City Assessor's Office, relief from the payment of interests on real property tax deficiency.”

The local government gave taxpayers until March 31 to accomplish the amnesty form. They may pay in full or in installments.

It added that taxpayers who will pay their tax for 2021 on or before the deadline may avail of a 20 percent discount.

"We will continue to provide compassionate support for all our residents and businesses who are still feeling the effects of COVID-19 on our economy," QC Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a statement.

The LGU also provided other tax relief schemes such as the extension of the business tax permit, including fees and charges, from January 20 to April 20 without penalty, surcharges, and interest.

It will also condone the surcharge and interest for the delayed second, third, and fourth quarter installments for 2020 business tax until March 31.

Meanwhile, the imposition of real property tax based on the approved schedule of fair market values has been suspended until December 2022. — DVM, GMA News
