4 hurt as steel bar in NLEX-SLEX connector project falls

Four construction workers were injured when a steel bar from the ongoing North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) connector project in Blumentritt in Manila fell on Monday afternoon.

According to Sam Nielsen’s report on Super Radyo dzBB, the accident happened at around 4:30 p.m.

Manila Police District Station 3 police chief Ferdinand Cayabyab said the four construction workers were immediately rushed to the hospital due to minor injuries.

Police are currently investigating the matter.

The NLEx connector project is an eight-kilometer toll road connecting the NLEx to South Luzon Expressway (SLEx).

Meanwhile, the Light Rail Manila Corporation clarified that the incident did not happen at the LRT-1 Blumentritt station.

In a statement, LRMC said the accident was not caused by a facility or structure of the LRT-1. The individuals hurt are also not LRT-1 passengers, it said.

“The incident took place at a construction site located about 20 meters away from the station,” LRMC said in a statement.

“LRMC would like to assure that the company upholds the highest safety standards and remains committed in running the LRT-1 system safely for Filipino commuters,” it added. -NB, GMA News
