South Africa variant case recorded in Baclaran —barangay chairman

Barangay Baclaran in Parañaque City has recorded a case of the South Africa variant of the coronavirus, village chairperson Julius Anthony Zaide said.

Zaide announced the development through Facebook Live on Sunday evening.

“Mayroon na po ditong positive African variant,” he said. “Inaalam na po ng city government at ng barangay kung sino-sino po yung mga nakasalamuha niya.”

A report on Super Radyo dzBB on Monday said an overseas Filipino worker contracted the variant, which spreads more easily compared to the original virus. The report cited information from Parañaque City health officer Dr. Olga Virtusio.

Zaide said the barangay would implement strict border control and intensify its monitoring of compliance to minimum health standards.

“Ang kailangan po namin magkaisa po tayo ngayon. Ang kailangan po namin magtulong-tulong po tayo lahat,” he said. — Virgil Lopez/BM, GMA News
