Holy Week activities suspended again in Manila amid COVID-19 pandemic —Isko

All activities related to the observance of Holy Week are suspended in Manila this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Mayor Isko Moreno on Friday.

"Yung nagpapalo sa likod, nagbubuhat ng krus na naggi-generate ng mga tao, yung Visita Iglesia, wala rin yan," he said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

Moreno instead urged Manila residents to observe Holy Week inside their homes.

As of Friday noon, Manila has 2,155 active COVID-19 cases with 847 deaths. Most of the active cases are in the Sampaloc area.

Moreno said the city recorded seven deaths on Thursday.

He also said they are monitoring several barangays in the city for possible imposition of granular lockdown.

"May binabantayan kaming ilang barangay kung aabot sila dun sa margin para mag-trigger ng lockdown, yung mga sampung infection, tinitignan natin kapag na-reach nila yun magi-initiate tayo ng lockdown," he said.

(We are monitoring some barangay if they will reach the 10-infection threshold that will trigger us to initiate a lockdown.)

At present, there are six areas in Manila that are under four-day granular lockdown, Moreno said. —KBK, GMA News
