PLM resumes face-to-face classes for health-related courses after CHED approval

The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) is resuming its limited face-to-face education for the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Physical Therapy following the approval from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

In a statement, the PLM said that under the clearance of CHED, students could now continue with their hands-on medical clerkship, which is a requirement for graduation under the College of Medicine.

The College of Nursing and the College of Physical Therapy are, meanwhile, finalizing their plans on what laboratory courses to offer on a limited face-to-face classes set-up, more than a year into the COVID-19 lockdowns.

The PLM in February began their online consultation with students, parents, teachers,  faculty and practicing doctors at the Ospital ng Maynila to discuss the idea of resuming hands-on learning.

CHED officials visited the PLM campus in April to evaluate the school's preparedness, and its observance of the minimum health standards in classrooms.

The authority to conduct limited face-to-face classes will last until the first semester of academic year 2021-2022.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases in January gave local governments the authority to approve any request for the reopening of face-to-face classes for medicine and health-related courses amid the COVID- 19 pandemic.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has previously approved the continuation of limited physical classes for medical schools of other universities and colleges in the city. -MDM, GMA News
