MMDA sets up emergency lay-by areas for motorcycle riders

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has set up various emergency lay-by areas for motorcycle riders, MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos said Friday.

“Because alam mo tuwing umuulan, talagang medyo delikado dahil ‘yung iba humihinto sa gilid at baka hindi makita ng sasakyan [at] mabangga sila,” Abalos said in an interview on Balitanghali.

(Because it’s somewhat dangerous when they stop by the side of the road when it’s raining. Other cars may not see them.)

Abalos said MMDA identified eight lay-by areas along EDSA: Quezon Avenue, GMA Kamuning, Kamias, Santolan, Ortigas, Buendia, Tramo, and Roxas Boulevard.

Meanwhile, six areas were identified along the C5 Road: Commonwealth Avenue, Luzon flyover; Barilake Highway; Aurora Boulevard; C5-Libis; Pasig Boulevard; C5 Kalayaan elevated U-turn along C5 Road.

The MMDA identified the Recto corner of Roxas Avenue and the Buendia flyover as lay-by areas along Roxas Boulevard.

Three areas were also identified along the Sucat NAIA Road: NAIA Imelda Avenue, NAIA Imelda, and the Paranaque Sucat Road near SM Sucat

Along Alabang, the West Service Road and the Alabang National Road were identified as lay-by areas.

“Inuulit ko, ito po ‘yung emergency parking habang umuulan. Hindi ito pwedeng maging terminal o ano man (I repeat, these are for emergency parking when it’s raining. These should not be used as a terminal),” he said.—AOL, GMA News
