Man who hit several cars in car chase, also fled from cops in 2017

The motorist who crashed into several vehicles and injured a tricycle driver while in a car chase with police on Tuesday already had a televised brush with authorities almost four years ago.

According to Chino Gaston’s report on “24 Oras", the suspect Arvin Tan in September 2017 had Manila policemen chasing him after he took a video at a police station of a witness in the death of hazing victim Horacio Castillo.

Tan escaped the policemen even after he was almost pulled away from his car. The authorities found his residence the following day and nabbed from his balcony.

He was at that time charged with malicious mischief.

The Quezon City Police District is looking into the old case.

“Pinapunta ko na sa MPD sa Manila atsaka doon sa court nila kung anong naging status ng kaso, bakit siya na-release,” QCPD Station 10 commander Police Liuetenant Colonel Alex Alberto said.

[I’ve ordered my men to go to the MPD and the court to ask about the status of the case and why he was released.]

“Baka dahil doon sa pinapakita niya na PWD siya atsaka ‘yung sinasabi niya na may mental illness siya ganon. Ang nakaka-ano po dito ay kung talagang may ganoon ay hindi na na-issuahan ng driver license,” he added.

[The reason could be connected to him being a PWD and what he said that he was suffering from a mental illness. But if this is really the case, he shouldn’t have been issued a driver’s license.]

On Tuesday, Tan tried to escape policemen after he refused to pay his bills at a motel.

He is facing complaints about the violation of RA 10586 or Anti-Drunk Driving Law, damage to property, resisting arrest, disobedience to a person of authority, and estafa.

The sachet of suspected illegal drugs found in his vehicle is being examined.

At present, the suspect is at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center.

The family requested the suspect to be a move to another hospital.

“Sige, papayagan natin pero after inquest. Pilitin natin na ma-inquest siya,” Alberto said. —Joahna Lei Casilao/NB, GMA News
