24,300 fully vaccinated seniors in Makati get P1,000 gift certificate

More than 24,000 senior citizens in Makati City received P1,000 gift certificate after they were  vaccinated against COVID-19 to curb vaccine hesitancy among the age group, Makati Mayor Abby Binay said Tuesday.

As of July, Binay disclosed that the city vaccinated over 50,000 senior citizens. Of the number, 44,121 received their first shot while 35,813 got second dose.

“Ideally, we should achieve a 100 percent vaccination rate among the elderly. However, it would still depend on their willingness to get vaccinated and on the availability of vaccines,” Binay said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Binay said the initial batches of some one million doses purchased by the city government are set to arrive this month.

“These past months, we have been going out of our way to boost the registration rate of Bakuna Makati among target groups. We want to make sure we will have enough people to vaccinate every time we get a partial delivery on the one million doses we purchased, and receive supplies from the national government,” Binay said.

In order to reach herd immunity in the city, Makati must inoculate 430,000 individuals. The procured one million doses will be able to cover 500,000 residents and transient workers.—Consuelo Marquez/LDF, GMA News
