JTF-NCR, AFP to help enforce 2-week ECQ
Operatives of the Joint Task Force—National Capital Region (JTF-NCR) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines will provide assistance in the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine in the National Capital Region.
Around 500 personnel will be deployed to various quarantine control points and border areas in NCR, the task force said.
Personnel will also be deployed to government quarantine facilities such as the Ninoy Aquino Stadium and Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila and the Solaire-PAGCOR Mega Quarantine Facility in Parañaque.
The JTF-NCR provides support to the Philippine National Police in maintaining peace and order as well combat terrorism in Metro Manila. The major services of the AFP namely the Army, Navy, and the Air Force provide manpower support to the task force.
During the ECQ, the JTF-NCR will also conduct back and forth “Libreng Sakay” operations along major routes of SM Fairview to Quezon Ave via Commonwealth; Gil Puyat LRT1 to Quezon Ave via Taft Ave and España; and SM Masinag to Cubao MRT via Marcos Highway.
NCR on Friday marked the first day of its return under an enhanced community quarantine. The quarantine classification will last until August 20.
Metro Manila Council chairman Edwin Olivarez said the first day of the reimposition of the ECQ in NCR went generally well.
The Philippines on Friday logged a total of 1,638,345 confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which 1,535,375 have recovered and 28,673 have died.—LDF, GMA News
