Students rummaging through trash for papers receive school supplies from GMA Kapuso Foundation

Six siblings have been rummaging through trash in order to collect some papers that they can use for their studies.

Now, they no longer have to look for what they need in other people's discarded things after receiving a school bag with school supplies from GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to a report on "24 Oras," Monday, the siblings were among the beneficiaries of the "Unang Hakbang Para sa Kinabukasan" project in Caloocan City and Quezon City.

"Naaawa po ako sa kanila kasi hindi po namin dalawang mag-asawa mabigay 'yung kailangan po nila [I feel bad for them because my husband and I can't provide their needs]," said their mother, Charilyn Ragas.

She said their daily income of P500 is only enough for their food, so they couldn't buy school supplies for the children.

Also among the beneficiaries was a six-year-old pupil who used to keep all his school materials inside one plastic envelope.

Over 4,000 students from Camarin D. Elementary School in Caloocan and President Corazon Aquino Elementary School in Quezon City received school bags as well as hygiene kits and face masks.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation is still accepting donations through bank deposits, Pay Maya, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, Zalora, Mega Mart, and Globe Rewards.
