AFP deploys 8 nurses to Lung Center

The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Monday deployed eight nurses to the Lung Center of the Philippines to boost its healthcare workforce amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, the AFP said two teams from the AFP Nurse Corps will undergo a one-month deployment in accordance with a memorandum of agreement between the AFP and the Department of Health.

“We are all equally affected by the impact of the pandemic but in situations when our fellow healthcare workers are feeling low, a friend or even a stranger who will extend sincere help expecting nothing in return, may be the beacon of hope,” said Colonel Fatima Claire Navarro, Surgeon General of the AFP.

“We cannot eliminate infectious diseases or pandemics but we can be the helping hand while awaiting our return to a new normal after each event,” she added.

The AFP said the teams’ deployment will be reviewed before the end of their assignment should there be a need for extension.

Last month, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the AFP and the Philippine National Police to have their medical corps on deck due to the rise of COVID-19 among health workers. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
