PNP: NCR areas under granular lockdown rise to 105 from 98
From 98, the number of areas under granular lockdown in the National Capital Region has increased to 105 as of Wednesday, data from the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed on Thursday.
In an update, the PNP said the locked down areas are located in 58 barangays.
These areas included 57 houses, 28 residential buildings, 12 subdivisions or villages, and six residential building floors.
According to the PNP Public Information Office, local government units (LGUs) are empowered to impose or lift lockdowns.
To ensure security and adherence to minimum health standards, the PNP has deployed 322 personnel and 251 force multipliers to the concerned areas.
Metro Manila Council (MMC) head and Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez earlier said the presence of one COVID-19 case is enough to lock down a house or a condominium floor.
To impose a lockdown on an entire street, he said, there should be at least two COVID-19 cases.
Granular lockdowns are micro-level quarantine for areas classified as "critical zones" by the local government unit (LGU).
According to officials, granular lockdowns could be implemented on a house, compound, street or building with high cases of infections. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
