Mayor Teodoro imposes limit on Marikina Riverbanks after crowds ignore COVID-19 protocols

Due to disregard of social distancing, Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro on Thursday said the city government will be limiting the number of visitors who can access the Riverbanks Center.

In a radio interview, Teodoro pointed out that they will control the number of visitors despite the center being an open area.

“Nabahala nga kami dahil hindi lang yun, dahil sobra ang excitement nila nakalimutan na yung minimum public health standards natin,” he said.

(We were concerned not only because of their excitement, but also because of their excitement, they forgot to observe our minimum public health standards.)

“Ngayon nilalagyan natin sila ng limit maski na open area. May limit ang puwedeng maka-access doon sa area na yun,” he added.

(Now we set a limit even if it is an open area. There will be a limit on who may have access in that area.)

Teodoro said the city government was worried about the excitement of many people who went to the Riverbanks Center as the National Capital Region shifted from Alert Level 4 to Alert Level 3.

With the easing of restrictions on October 16, many visitors have started trooping to the Riverbanks Center.

According to Teodoro, some visitors came from other areas like Antipolo, Cainta and Quezon City.

Marikina now has 586 active COVID-19 cases, of which, 4% are hospitalized. Teodoro said the number of infections has declined by 27% since last week. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
