MMDA studying legal moves to prevent return of provincial buses on EDSA

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said it is studying possible laws to prevent the return of provincial buses on EDSA.

According to Jun Veneracion's report on "24 Oras" on Tuesday, MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos said there would be "total chaos" along EDSA once provincial buses resume operations on the major thoroughfare.

"Magulo ito... All of the traffic gains, mga improvement na ginawa natin for the last two years, down the drain 'yan," said Abalos.

He added that the EDSA bus carousel and the bike lanes might be affected once provincial buses resume operations.

Abalos said he already met with Metro Manila mayors regarding the matter.

"Ang consensus is we will try to save Metro Manila from this armageddon, from this chaos," he said.

Earlier, Abalos said it will coordinate with local government units on the issuance of ordinances regulating the possible return of some 4,000 provincial buses along EDSA. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/DVM, GMA  News
