Ammonia leak reported in Navotas ice plant

An ammonia leak occurred at an ice plant in North Bay Boulevard, Navotas City on Saturday.

Based on the initial report, personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFO) immediately responded and contained the ammonia leak in Magsimpan Ice Plant, according to Rod Vega’s report on Super Radyo dzBB.

The BFP said a mechanical failure in the cooling system of the ice plant caused the partial ammonia leak.

Meanwhile, the cooling system is set to undergo a maintenance checkup this month.

The BFP also asked the management of the ice plant to provide a contingency plan for verification purposes.

No reported injuries from the residents and crew of the ice plant during the incident. — DVM, GMA News
