Two hurt due to fireworks in QC brought to East Avenue Medical Center

Two people injured due to fireworks amid the New Year revelry were brought to the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) on Saturday, New Year's Day, the hospital said.

The victims are both women, one a 12-year-old, and the other, a 46-year-old, according to a report by Mark Makalalad on Dobol B TV.

The 12-year-old victim had an abrasion on the right foot due to a kwitis that exploded. She was seen at 12:05 a.m. at the EAMC.

The 46-year-old victim, on the other hand, had a first-degree burn around the eye due to  fountain fireworks and was brought to EAMC at 1 a.m.

Both victims were sent home after medical treatment.

The Department of Health (DOH) has earlier appealed to the public to refrain from using fireworks to welcome the new year to prevent injuries.

“Pigilan po natin ang aksidente at disgrasya dahil sa paputok sa pamamagitan ng pag-iwas sa paggamit nito at pagiging handa sa lahat ng pwedeng maging aksidente,” DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said on Tuesday.
