Valenzuela City suspends classes due to COVID-19 surge


The Valenzuela City government on Friday announced the suspension of classes following the increase of COVID-19 cases in the country.

In an advisory, the local government said all classes in both private and public schools would be suspended from January 15 to 22.

“Dahil sa patuloy na pagtaas ng kaso ng COVID-19 sa bansa, suspendido ang mga klase sa mga pampubliko at pribadong Preschool, Elementary, High School at Senior High School sa Valenzuela City simula Enero 15 hanggang Enero 22, 2022,” the Valenzuela City government said.

(Due to the continued increase of COVID-19 cases in the country, classes in public and private Preschool, Elementary, High School and Senior High School in Valenzuela City are suspended starting January 15 up to January 22, 2022.)

“In light of the current COVID-19 situation in the country, classes at the College level in all public and private colleges and universities in Valenzuela City will be SUSPENDED from January 15 to January 22, 2022,” the local government said in a separate advisory.

Meanwhile, several cities including Manila, Marikina, Pasay, and Antipolo also suspended classes for students and teachers to allow them to give time to recover from illness.

The government placed Metro Manila and around 50 other areas under Alert Level 3 from January 16 to 31 amid the rising COVID-19 cases.

The Philippines on Friday logged 37,207 new COVID-19 cases, another highest daily tally since the start of pandemic, increasing the nationwide count to 3,129,512.  -- Richa Noriega/BAP, GMA News
