MRT-3 finishes overhaul of 50 out of 72 train cars

The number of newly overhauled  Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) train cars now stands at 50 with 22 more scheduled, the train management said Friday.

On Facebook, MRT-3  said two of the train cars were deployed on April 6 and the end of March after passing a series of speed testing and quality checks.

The increase in operational train cars boosted MRT-3’s passenger capacity which currently has 21 train sets running in its line. Of the numbers, 19 are 3-car CKD train sets while two are  4-car CKD train sets.

All are operating at 100 percent capacity with 394 passengers riding a train car or at least 1,182 individuals per train system. A 4-car CKD train set, meanwhile, can cater to up to 1,576 passengers.

To ensure public safety, the DoTr urged passengers to strictly observe minimum health protocols including wearing masks. Eating or drinking, talking, and using mobile phones are also prohibited inside the trains.—LDF, GMA News
