P208-M earmarked for Valenzuela Medical Center expansion

More patients will soon be able to avail of services in the Valenzuela Medical Center (VMC) after the city government announced its expansion with the construction of a four-story building.

Rep. Eric Martinez led the groundbreaking rites for the P208-million extension building project which is poised to increase the city hospital’s operational capacity from 200 to 500 beds.

Upon its completion, the project will also include the establishment of a roof deck, central sewerage treatment plant, and central powerhouse. The new wing will likewise house VMC’s expanded Radiology Department, Operating Room Complex and Surgical Intensive Care, Hemodialysis, Chemotherapy, and Ambulatory Surgical Units.

The target date for the completion of the project is on June 2023.

It will be built by Scheirman Construction Consolidated, Inc. (SCCI), the same contractor behind the Makati Life Medical Center, a public-private partnership hospital being jointly developed by the Makati local government and Life Nurture Inc (LNI).

Currently, VMC specializes in neonatal, geriatrics, dermatology, ophthalmology, trauma, burn management, cancer care, stroke care, emerging and re-emerging infectious disease, and hemodialysis.

The government in 2018 granted the city government additional 6,600 square meters of land for its expansion where an Infectious Disease Clinic and Warehouse building was constructed.

It now features a 134-bed operating capacity, a Malasakit Center, and two emergency rooms —  one for infectious diseases and another for non-infectious diseases. -- Sundy Locus/BAP, GMA News
