Malacañang declares June 24 a special non-working day in Manila

Malacañang has declared June 24, 2022 Friday a special non-working day in the city of Manila to celebrate the Philippine capital's 451st founding anniversary.

The holiday declaration was signed on June 22 by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, a copy of which was released by the Palace on Wednesday.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the city of Manila be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with the appropriate ceremonies, subject to the public health measures of the government,” Proclamation 1400 stated.

The City of Manila was founded on June 24, 1571 by Spanish conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legazpi.

The city is the center of the country’s economic, political, social, and cultural activity. It is located along the eastern shore of Manila Bay at the mouth of the Pasig River.—LDF, GMA News
