Street dweller in Quezon City shot by 'fake' cop

A street dweller was wounded after he was shot by a uniformed individual in Quezon City early Tuesday morning, GMA News' James Agustin reported.

The incident occurred after the victim allegedly spat at the SUV of the person in uniform.

The suspect, authorities learned afterwards, was only posing as a police officer.

Footage from CCTV video on D. Tuazon Street in Barangay Don Manuel showed the SUV on the road while the victim was walking, according to Agustin's report on Unang Balita on Tuesday.

The SUV stopped and the driver lowered the window to talk to the victim, who did not mind him.

A bystander said he told the SUV driver that the street dweller was not in his right mind.

However, the SUV driver got down from his vehicle to talk to the victim. Before he boarded the SUV, he fired a shot.

The victim was hit on the shoulder and neck.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Richard Ang, commander of the Galas Police Station, said residents are familiar with the street dweller since he roams around and sleeps on the sidewalk.

Police were able to track the SUV driver based on the vehicle's plate number.

The suspect, identified as Aurelio Ramos, 25, was the third owner of the vehicle. He was arrested in a follow-up operation by police.

Ang said the suspect admitted that he bought the police uniform online.

Authorities recovered a firearm with bullets from the suspect who did not issue any statement to media.

The suspect will face charges of frustrated homicide, illegal possession of firearms, illegal use of uniform and insignia and usurpation of authority. —BAP/KG, GMA News
