Ateneo prays for speedy recovery of injured victims of deadly shooting
The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) on Friday said it is praying for the speedy recovery of the two victims who were wounded during a recent shooting incident that occurred inside the campus over the weekend.
Chao-Tiao Yumol, a 38-year-old doctor from Lamitan, Basilan, was arrested last Sunday after three people were shot dead inside the Ateneo campus, just as its law school was about to hold its graduation ceremony.
Killed were former Lamitan mayor Rose Furigay, Furigay's aide Victor Capistrano, and Ateneo security guard Jeneven Bandiala.
Furigay's daughter Hannah, a graduating law student, was wounded and is being treated in a hospital. Also injured was Julia Manabat, a 54-year-old nurse from Pasay City.
“We hope and pray that both Hannah Rose and Julia find quick healing of their physical wounds, and that they may recover soon from the trauma and emotional distress caused by the incident,” the Ateneo community said in a statement.
According to the Philippine National Police, Yumol had a personal quarrel with the former Lamitan mayor after the Furigays had earlier filed 76 cyber libel cases against the gunman due to his accusation that they were involved in the illegal drug trade. The family’s legal counsel has denied the allegations. — Sundy Locus/RSJ, GMA News
