Center for disaster-hit families, abandoned youth, elderly soon to rise in Marikina
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started to construct a building to serve as a shelter for disaster-stricken families and abandoned youth and elderly in Marikina City.
In a statement on Thursday, the DPWH said the four-story building will rise in a 720-square-meter area inside the Manila Boystown Complex in Marikina City.
The department said the project costs P92 million and will house offices and 17 bed spaces with a private bathroom, including provision for storage, laundry, and kitchen areas, to be utilized by Boystown employees.
The first two floors, the DPWH said, will be dedicated to disaster-stricken families and an additional home to abandoned youth and elderly to serve as an evacuation center and comfortable shelter.
“Once completed, this new facility will greatly help the Boystown personnel in fulfilling their commitment in providing care and support to the homeless and abandoned, particularly children and senior citizens, on the streets of Manila,” the DPWH said. —Richa Noriega/KBK, GMA News
