Six dead in fire that hit a residential area in Barangay Pasong Tamo, QC
Six people died in a fire that broke out in their house in a residential area in Barangay Pasong Tamo, Quezon City before dawn on Saturday.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fatalities include a 79-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman and her three children aged 12, 7, and 2, according to a report by Luisito Santos on Dobol B TV.
Five bodies of the fatalities were retrieved as of 6:30 a.m. The sixth one was retrieved past 7 a.m.
According to the BFP, the victims may have tried to escape the burning house based on their location when their bodies were found.
Two bodies were found on the ground floor, two on the staircase — the mother and her two-year-old child — while the other two minors were discovered on the second floor.
The BFP said the victims may have suffocated and lost consciousness before debris fell on them.
The fire broke out at 1:54 a.m. at the victims' house in Villa Corina Subdivision.
Firefighters raised the first alarm, then were able to put out the fire at 3:20 a.m.
In a separate report on Super Radyo dzBB, neighbors said they tried to rescue the victims, who were believed to be sleeping when the fire broke out.
However, the neighbors were unable to enter the house because the main door was locked.
Investigation is ongoing into the incident.
The BFP said estimated damage to property may reach P1.5 million. —With a report from Jamil Santos/KG/LBG, GMA News
