City of Malabon University teachers urge release of salaries amid months-long delay

Some teachers at the City of Malabon University (CMU) are calling for the release of their salaries following months of delay, according to Maki Pulido’s report on “24 Oras”.

Around 100 teachers consisting of full-time, part-time, and guest lecturers have yet to receive their salaries for June in the first semester of 2022, and their pay for October and November in the second semester.

The instructors said they repeatedly asked the school administrator about their salaries in a group chat.

“Ang laging sinasabi, kino-compute pa, pino-process pa, inaasikaso naman," one of the affected teachers said.

"Sometime in August, September, lahat 'yung mga administrators... biglang they left the group chat,” the teacher said.

(They told us they were still computing and processing it… But sometime in August and September, the administrators left the group chat.)

Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Popoy de Vera said the university was removed from the government’s UniFast program after it failed to comply with the requirements despite being given ample time to process them.

De Vera said that with the removal, the city government of Malabon is now tasked to cover its expenses including the teachers’ salaries.

GMA News reached out to the city administrator but it deferred the statement to the CMU.

A press release in October indicated that Mayor Jeannie Sandoval was already investigating the issue.

CMU told GMA Integrated News it was not yet ready to issue a statement. —Sundy Locus/NB, GMA Integrated News
