MMDA to upgrade, add pumping stations to prevent flooding

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday said it would upgrade and add more pumping stations as part of its flood control measures.

(We have continuing upgrades on our pumping stations. We are replacing some machines that need to be upgraded.)

(There are more pumping stations that may be built. The construction of a new pumping station in Tatalon in Araneta in Quezon City is being studied.)

In August, the MMDA pointed to an unfinished project involving a pumping station as the cause of flooding in some of Manila's roads amid heavy rains.

Aside from improving pumping station systems, San Juan said the MMDA is also conducting cleanup operations in esteros to prevent flooding due to the clogging of trash. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
