Illegal firecrackers seized, destroyed ahead of New Year revelry

Authorities seized and destroyed illegal firecrackers ahead of the New Year celebrations.

According to John Consulta’s "24 Oras" report on Friday, the Anti-Cybercrime Group of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrested illegal vendors of firecrackers after accepting the marked money.

The undercover agent called the vendor in the online transaction, and it was confirmed that they were the ones arrested.

Among the firecrackers confiscated in the operations were super lola, bawang, 5 star, whistle bomb, and tilapia.

"May mga papasok dito sa legal na pyrotechnics and firecrackers. However, kailangan ang nagbebenta ay mayroong permit at regulatory requirement kung kaya in the absence of that, the sale and trading becomes illegal," Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III, district director of the QCPD, said.

At Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig, senior officials of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) destroyed some illegal fireworks to serve as a warning for the vendors and users.

"‘Pag bumili kayo niyan, huhulihin kayo ng mga pulis natin. Kawawa naman ‘yung mga binayad ninyo, pinaghirapan niyo rin yan," Police Major General Jonnel Estomo, NCRPO regional director, said. —Richa Noriega/VBL, GMA Integrated News
