Black Nazarene devotees flock to Quiapo for the traditional ‘Pabihis’

Devotees came to witness the traditional "Pabihis" of the Black Nazarene at the Quiapo Church on Saturday.

In a report by Dano Tingcungco on 24 Oras Weekend, devotees flocked to Plaza Miranda for a day of Masses before the Walk of Faith.

Authorities promised that security and physical distancing rules would be enforced, with yellow signages placed around the area.

“Ngayong taon po na ito, bago po yung damit, bago po yung kanyang koronang tinik, ang kanyang tres potensyana, ang kanyang borlas, at ang kanyang kantoneras. Yung kantoneras po, ito po yung apat na kanto ng krus na makikita niyo po dun sa Nazareno,” said Quiapo Church personnel.

The church also explained that apart from being a sign of gratitude, the pabihis is also a symbol of the Black Nazarene's impact on the lives of many.

After the dressing ceremony, many stayed inside the church for the long-awaited "pagbabasbas" or blessing and "pahalik" or kissing of the on the image's clothes.

Among those who attended was Aling Amanda, from Orion, Bataan.

"I agpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng biyayang binigay niya sa amin. Masaya, alam kong didinggin niya yung aking pinagdasal," she said.

Many devotees said their devotion continues despite not having the traditional Traslacion. — Sherylin Untalan/DVM, GMA News Integrated News
