Exclusive motorcycle lane dry run on Commonwealth Avenue extended until March 26 — MMDA

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has extended for another week the dry run of the exclusive motorcycle lane along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

In a statement, the MMDA said this is to give way to the patching works by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and provide more time for the motorists to be familiar with the policy.

"We opt to continue the dry run of the exclusive motorcycle lane along Commonwealth Ave. from Elliptical Road to Doña Carmen and vice versa until March 26,” MMDA acting chairman Don Artes said.

“In coordination with the DPWH, their patch works in the area will continue to address the issues on the said road," he added.

The dry run of the designated motorcycle lane started on March 9. Initially, the full implementation was set to start March 20 and violators will be charged with a P500 fine.

According to the MMDA, the exclusive motorcycle lane is located on the third lane from the sidewalk along Commonwealth Avenue.

It aims to reduce motorcycle-related road crash incidents and ensure smooth traffic flow, the MMDA said.

From March 9 to 16 during the dry run, a total of 9,757 motorcycle riders and four-wheel private vehicle drivers were flagged down, the MMDA said.

Artes said the DPWH has been working in the area since last week after motorists expressed concerns about uneven portions and potholes on the highway.

The MMDA is also eyeing to install reflectors and solar street lamps to light up the area that would help avoid accidents. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
