Four passengers injured after train activates 'emergency brake' system, says MRT3
At least four passengers sustained minor injuries after a defective train of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) activated its "automatic brake" feature.
At 9:08 a.m. on Wednesday, the safety feature of the train, called the automatic train protection (ATP) system, activated to stop a defective index approaching Boni Station, the MRT3 said.
The MRT-3 added that the four injured passengers received first aid treatment from emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Security personnel were also instructed to provide all assistance to the passengers.
"Kita mong tumilapon yung tao. First bagon, nandun kami, then pagka-preno, napunta kami sa second bagon, ganoon kalakas yung impact niya," said passenger Mac Carbonel in Marisol Abdurahman's report on "24 Oras"
(We saw people fall. We were on the first train, but we reached the second train. That's how strong the impact was.)
"'Yung mga taong nakaupo, natumba talaga, na-wipeout... Traumatic siya, parang nakakatakot na tuloy sumakay ng MRT," he added.
(Even people who were sitting fell. It was traumatic, and I now feel scared to ride the MRT.)
The defective train resumed movement by 9:16 a.m. upon intervention by on-board technicians and was removed for further troubleshooting by a maintenance provider, according to the MRT3.
Assistant Secretary for Railways and MRT-3 Officer-in-Charge Jorjette B. Aquino apologized for the inconvenience caused by the incident. —Joviland Rita/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
