Ex-cop in hiding for 2 years nabbed for extortion

Police have arrested a dismissed police staff sergeant for extortion after he allegedly went into hiding for two years.

According to Emil Sumangil’s report on “24 Oras”, former Police Staff Sergeant Michael Rikk Carpena was arrested by the personnel of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Philippine National Police Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) in Muntinlupa.

“Na-dismiss po siya sa kaso ng grave misconduct ng ating PNP. Pero nagkaroon siya ng maraming samu’t saring kaso ng robbery extortion nung siya nasa serbisyo,” PNP-IMEG deputy chief for admin Police Colonel Leon Victor Rosete said.

(He was dismissed in the case of grave misconduct by our PNP. But he had many different cases of robbery and extortion when he was in the service.)

He was also involved in a questionable raid at a POGO establishment in Alabang, Muntinlupa in 2020.

“Sixteen po ang hinuli nila doon, iligal. Kumuha sila ng mga gamit doon na nakakahalaga ng more or less P900,000,” Rosete said.

(They arrested 16 there, illegally. They took items worth more or less P900,000.)

Based on the complaint of 17 Chinese and four Filipino POGO workers, the group of Carpena robbed them of cash, two diamond rings, phones, and gadgets with a total cost of almost half a million pesos.

“Nandoon din po siya sa ating national watchlist for illegal drugs,” Rosete said.

(He is also on our national watchlist for illegal drugs.)
