Missing UP alumni CA hearing reset to August 3, 10
The hearing of the Court of Appeals (CA) for the petition for a writ of habeas corpus for the two missing alumni from the University of the Philippines has been reset for August, a lawyer said Friday.
Atty. Marben Panlasiqui, the legal counsel of the families of Gene Roz Jamil “Bazoo” de Jesus and Dexter Capuyan, said the hearing at the CA Thirteenth Division was reset to August 3 and August 10.
GMA News Online reached out to the court to confirm this, but they declined to comment, saying they cannot give out details of cases.
In a 10-page resolution dated July 10, the Thirteenth Division ordered the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to produce De Jesus and Capuyan before the court during the hearing “if found in their custody.”
The CA also asked the respondents to show cause why De Jesus and Capuyan should remain in their custody.
The two were reportedly abducted in Taytay, Rizal on April 28.
In a statement last month, the University of the Philippines (UP) System said De Jesus and Capuyan are known indigenous peoples' rights activists. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
