Veteran journalist Mike Enriquez laid to rest


The late veteran broadcast journalist and GMA Network pillar Mike Enriquez was laid to rest on Sunday at Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City.

Loved ones and friends of Enriquez braved the heavy rains to attend his funeral.

Before going to the cemetery, Enriquez’ funeral convoy passed by his house in White Plains Subdivision in Quezon City, based on a Super Radyo dzBB report of Luisito Santos.

Enriquez's pet dogs were brought to the gate of their home to witness the funeral convoy pass by.

 

 

 

A funeral mass was held earlier on Sunday morning at the Christ the King Parish Church in Greenmeadows, Quezon City.

Among those present were GMA Network officials, as well as colleagues of Enriquez both in the radio and TV industry. Supporters of the late journalist also paid their respects.

Enriquez’s family held a public wake on Saturday.

Enriquez passed away last Tuesday, August 29, at the age of 71.

He took a medical leave in December 2021 to undergo a kidney transplant and returned to work in time for the 2022 election coverage. In 2018, he also took a medical leave to undergo a heart bypass and get treated for kidney disease.

Enriquez was one of the anchors of GMA's flagship newscast "24 Oras" and hosted long-running GMA Public Affairs program "Imbestigador." —Giselle Ombay/KG, GMA Integrated News
