Valenzuela police deploy teams to find gun-toting motorist in new road rage case
The Valenzuela police has formed tracker teams to begin the search for the gun-toting man involved in the latest case of road rage, according to a "24 Oras" report by Jun Veneracion.
"I dispatched four teams so we can act fast on this case," Police Colonel Salvador Destura Jr., Valenzuela police chief, said.
The city government also appealed to the public to report to authorities any information on the incident.
A viral video of the incident which happened on August 19 in Barangay Punturin involved the driver of an SUV and a taxi driver.
The video showed the driver of the SUV getting off his vehicle, cocking his gun before heading to a direction that was not captured in the footage.
As the SUV driver heads back to his car, a man was seen following him, who turned out to be the taxi driver. The two briefly talked until the SUV driver allegedly pushed the taxi driver.
The CCTV of the barangay captured what took place before the encounter. Based on the footage, the SUV driver was seen speeding and attempted to overtake the vehicle in front when it hit the incoming taxi. This was when the SUV driver drew a gun.
“Kinausap naman ni taxi driver yung sa Fortuner, eh nag ano agad sya, nagalit at minura tapos pumunta ng sasakyan, bumalik tsaka kinuha yung baril,” Destura said.
The video was uploaded by lawyer Raymond Fortun, who was also the uploader of the road rage incident involving former police officer Wilfredo Gonzales and a cyclist.
“It creates a very chilling effect and actually these things are not isolated incidents. It’s possible na meron pang nangyayari na unfortunately walang video,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Automobile Association of the Philippine advised motorists to be aware of their environment and keep their cool on the road to avoid further incidents of road rage.
“Kung kayang daanin sa diplomasya kung halimbawang nagkasagian, gawin natin yun. Pagusapan ng may diplomasya,” said the group's advocacy officer Cynthia Reyes.
“Kasi mapapansin mo naman kung ang kasabay mo sa kalsada na mainitin ang ulo, siguro kung kaya mo magbigay wag na patulan. Ikaw na ang magbigay para makaiwas nalang tayo sa ganyang away sa kalsada na pwedeng mauwi sa di magandang resulta,” she added. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
