NLEX connector España-Magsaysay section opens on Oct. 28

NLEX Corp., the operator of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), is opening the NLEX Connector's España to Magsaysay section on Saturday.

The said section will be opened at 12:01 a.m. on October 28, 2023, the company said in an advisory.

NLEX Corp. said the opening of the new section is in time for the anticipated influx of motorists for Undas and Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE) long weekends.

The opening of the additional 1.8-kilometer four-lane (2x2) NLEX Connector España to Magsaysay Section will also help ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila, especially in major thoroughfares such as EDSA and C5, according to the company.

Apart from cutting the travel time from C3 in Caloocan to Magsaysay Boulevard in Manila to only eight minutes, the section is also seen to ease the traffic condition in Nagtahan, G. Araneta, Aurora Blvd., Lacson, Magsaysay and España Blvd.

Opening the España to Magsaysay section is also seen to help improve accessibility of motorists travelling from Manila, San Juan, and other nearby cities as they can enter the NLEX Connector Magsaysay Interchange on-ramp and head straight to the north via NLEX.

The toll road operator said opening the NLEX Connector España to Magsaysay section is also part of the “Safe Trip Mo Sagot Ko” motorist assistance program of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), which aims to enhance expressway services for a safer, faster, and more convenient travel.

"To alleviate the expected increase in traffic volume, we immediately decided to open the NLEX Connector España to Magsaysay Section. This should help improve the travel experience of motorists as this new section will make travel from Metro Manila to the North and vice versa, faster, and more convenient, especially this Undas,” said NLEX Corp. president J. Luigi Bautista.

The tollway operator said it will retain the current discounted rate of P86 for the NLEX Connector “until further notice.”

In total, the NLEX Connector currently has three interchanges located in C3 Road/5th Avenue in Caloocan, España and Magsaysay Blvd. in Manila.
