Some high school grads got hired at Manila job fair

At least 500 job seekers trooped to a job fair in Manila in hopes of landing employment opportunities.

In Mark Salazar’s report on “24 Oras”, some high school graduates secured jobs during the mega job fair organized by the Manila Public Employment Service Office on Thursday.

One of them is Grace, who applied as a customer service representative for a business process outsourcing company.

“‘Yung asawa ko para matulungan ko na rin. Kasi masyadong mabait, e. Siya lang ang nagwo-work. Naawa na ako. Gusto ko siyang tulungan,” she said.

Mark, a high school graduate, was likewise hired as a cook.

“Mahirap po maghanap ng trabaho kapag hindi nakatapos. Kaya kailangan talaga magsikap sa pag-aaral para pag naghanap ka ng trabaho mabilis na kumbaga trabaho hahanap sayo,” he said.

(It’s difficult to land jobs if you did not finish your studies.)

For those who failed to secure jobs, the Manila City government said they partnered with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for the free upskilling of job seekers.

“Kasama po natin ang TESDA. Kung hindi ka man mahire ngayong araw na ito doon ka naman namin i-upskill thru TESDA training for free,” said Assistant to the Mayor Fernan Bermejo.
