54 buses deployed on March 27 to offset LRT-1’s Holy Week closure — DOTr
Passenger buses were deployed on Wednesday, March 27, to serve commuters who will be affected by the temporary closure of Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) during the Holy Week, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said.
In an advisory, the DOTr said the deployment of passenger buses were done in collaboration with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
The deployment of buses was meant to “offset the shutdown of operations of LRT Line 1 that will be doing preparatory works for the opening of the five additional stations from Redemptorist to Dr. Santos Stations of the LRT Line 1 within this year.”
“LRT-1 will also undertake the annual Holy Week maintenance works,” the DOTr said.
The Transportation Department said the buses will ply the route from Edsa-Taft to Monument and vice-versa, along Taft Avenue.
Four buses from the MMDA and 50 buses from LTFRB were deployed, “augmenting the regular daily buses along these routes, from 4 a.m. onwards on 27 March 2024.”
The DOTr said the buses will have pickup and drop off points along Taft Avenue, specifically Edsa-Taft, Gil Puyat, Doroteo Jose, Carriedo, and Monumento.
“These measures are to ensure that commuters will continue to have access to public transportation as part of the Oplan Biyaheng Ayos of the government,” it said. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
