PLM to shift to online classes due to heat index hike starting April 15
The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) announced a shift to alternative mode in the conduct of classes starting April 15 due to the increasing heat index in the country.
According to a statement posted on Thursday, the decision was made in the interest of the health and safety of their stakeholders.
“Faculty members are given the discretion to shift to online synchronous mode of learning depending on the requirements of the subject course,” the statement read.
The administration said that further developments will be announced, while the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and College Deans will release additional information on mechanisms that will help “monitor the conduct of online classes.”
According to the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT)-National Capital Region Union, 77% of NCR public school teachers can no longer bear the heat in classrooms.
On Thursday, PAGASA’s 5 p.m. heat index forecast stated that 6 different areas nationwide will still be under a dangerous level of heat index. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/BAP, GMA Integrated News
