2K residents in Taguig waterless for 6 days

At least 2,000 residents in a Taguig City village were left waterless for almost a week after their peoples’ organization failed to remit dues worth P5 million.

According to Maki Pulido’s 24 Oras report, residents of Pilar Village were reeling from limited water for six days after the Manila Water cut off their supply.

This is due to the Inner Port Neighborhood — a group tasked to charge residents their water dues — failing to remit their payments, leaving them with debt of around P5 million.

“Nagbayad sila ng P650,000 noong nakaraang linggo pero ang sabi ni Manila Water, 'kapitana it's not enough' na para ireconnect uli,” said Barangay Pinagsama Chairperson Ma. Victoria Mortel.

(They paid P650,000 last week but the MW said it is insufficient h for reconnection.)

Pilar Village is under bulk metering since the land where it stands is owned by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). Residents are also paying almost twice the residential rate ranging from P65 to P74.

Fire trucks were deployed to the village to help the residents but some said they were not able to avail of the free water service.

“Hindi kami nabibigyan ng truck ng bumbero ng tubig. Laging lagpas. Dun sa dulo,” a resident said.

(They did not reach us.)

Mortel, for her part, said they will designate six stations around the village for the faster distribution of water supply.

Angat Dam

The water level of Angat Dam — which supplies water in Metro Manila and irrigation in parts of Bulacan — decreased to 185 meters as of May 6.

To conserve water the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), temporarily prohibited golf courses to utilize water from water concessionaires to maintain their greens.

“Hindi lang naman ang golf courses 'yan. Meron ding mga gardens, paglinis sa club house, etc. Sana tumulong na rin sila sa pagtitipid ng konsumo ng tubig,” said DENR Undersecretary CP David.

(They are not only maintaining the golf course. They also water gardens, clean the club house etc. We are just hoping they will help in conserving water.)

David also reminded the public to practice conservation tips to avoid water service interruptions.—Sundy Locus/RF, GMA Integrated News
