Motorcycle rider, passenger dead after collision in Manila
A motorcycle rider and his passenger were killed in a collision with an Asian Utility Vehicle (AUV) on early Sunday morning at an intersection in Santa Cruz, Manila.
Citing police investigation, EJ Gomez on 24 Oras Weekend reported that the traffic light along Fugoso Street was green when the AUV struck the motorcycle that made a sudden u-turn at the intersection.
Due to the speed of the AUV, the rider was thrown across the other lane while his passenger was stuck between a gutter and the AUV.
A first responder tried to administer CPR on the rider.
“Bale, yung dugo po na pinagmulan po nito is head trauma po. And then yung iba naman po is lumalabas na po sa internal bleeding po. Galing na po sa bibig,” said responder Ernan dela Cruz Jr.
(The blood came from the head trauma while the rest of the blood came from the internal bleeding that was coming from the mouth.)
The motorcycle passenger also had a faint pulse but eventually died due to the severity of his injuries.
“Sa angkas naman po ng rider is nakalabas na po yung ribs niya sa likod po,” Dela Cruz said.
(As for the passenger, his ribs were sticking out from the back.)
Meanwhile, the driver of the AUV sustained minor injuries, while his passenger sustained head injuries and was brought to the hospital for treatment.
“Takot na takot po. First time pong nangyari sa akin ito. Hindi ko po akalain 20 years akong nag drive. Hindi ko po akalain na biglang may lalabas na motor,” the AUV driver said.
(I am so scared. This happened to me for the first time. I did not expect this will happen to me in the 20 years that I have been driving. I did not expect a motorcycle to suddenly appear.)
Authorities are looking at the barangay CCTV footage to determine what actually happened.
The driver is currently in police custody and is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
